OHIO: Safety is main course at Springdale restaurants - (Cincinnati.com)

SPRINGDALE–Diners choose restaurants for the menu and service, but food safety is often taken for granted.
Springdale’s health department has taken a closer look at food safety in sit-down restaurants, and the city has presented 10 eateries with its 6 Star Honor Award.
“It seems like, sometimes, the health department inspecting restaurants can seem punitive, like catching them doing something wrong,” said Health Commissioner Cammie Mitrione. “This is a way to honor restaurants that are doing a really good job,” she said.
The award examines six criteria:
* Have less than two critical violations during a license year (March 1-Feb. 28). Critical violations are those that, if they continue, could cause a health threat or illness.
* Can’t have follow-up or re-inspections within that same license year.
* Have no smoke-free violations.
* Be in good standing with other city agencies.
* Have valid food license, renewed on time.
* Have educational requirements such as food safety training […]
