BENTONVILLE - A Bentonville woman claims she was sickened by food poisoning caused by salmonella after eating at a local restaurant.
Fort Smith attorney Bill Horton filed the suit Wednesday in Benton County Circuit Court on behalf of Shelly Smith against Sushi King LLC.
Smith claims she went to the Bentonville restaurant on Feb. 10, 2006, and had salmon and a drink. She became ill later that day and was diagnosed with salmonella poisoning.
The suit claims Smith’s doctor related her illness to the consumption of Sushi King’s meal, according to court documents. The suit alleges that the restaurant failed to maintain, prepare and serve its food in a reasonably safe condition.
Smith incurred medical expenses of $ 7, 568. 18 for her treatment, according to the complaint.
She also had to miss a semester of nursing school because she continued to test positive for salmonella, the suit states.
