INDIANAPOLIS: Health officials say shigella outbreak could worsen - (WISH-TV 8)

MARION COUNTY, Ind.–Marion County’s shigella outbreak is now into its sixth month and health officials are worried the highly contagious disease is going to become more widespread because kids are coming back from spring break.
The health department learned of 16 new cases this week and 15 last week.
The symptoms of Shigella include diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain, chills and fever.
The most effective way to stop the spread of Shigella is thorough and frequent hand washing.
