AUSTRALIA: New South Wales ushers in ‘name and shame’ food safety law - (Food Week Online)

Controversial legislation allowing the naming and shaming of restaurants and cafes that fail food safety inspections has, according to this story, passed through the New South Wales Upper House.
The amendments to the Food Safety Act will allow the Food Authority to publish on its website details of businesses that receive penalty notices for breaches of food laws. The bill now goes to the Lower House.
Critics say the long-awaited legislation doesn’t go far enough because it fails to include all eateries.
“The scheme will continue to protect the identities of outlets that are in areas inspected by local councils, no matter how serious their breaches are. Only those that are in districts covered by the NSW Food Authority will be named,” said Greens MP John Kaye.
“It will also shelter restaurants that are guilty of violations other than those that the government considers to be serious.”
