Another two South Island cases of a rare salmonella strain have been reported, but experts are, according to this story, no closer to pinpointing the source of the national outbreak.
Since January, 30 people have been infected with Salmonella mbandaka. One of them, Phyllis Priest, 74, of Wakefield, near Nelson, died in Nelson Hospital last month.
The latest two cases occurred in Canterbury and Invercargill, bringing the total number of South Island cases to 23.
Ministry of Health spokesman Michael Flyger was cited as saying the ministry and the New Zealand Food Safety Authority were leading the investigation, working alongside Environmental Science and Research (ESR) and public health services. No single source had been identified.
