About 40 children and staff at the nursery unit of a south Belfast primary school are to be screened for E. coli.
The Eastern Board was cited as saying it took the decision after three members of the same family contracted the infection, which can cause diarrhoea and vomiting.
One of them - a four-year-old boy - attends the nursery unit at Rosetta Primary School.
Dr Lourda Geoghegan from the Easter Board was cited as saying that the school itself remains open, adding, “With regard to the nursery unit at Rosetta Primary School, we are advising a thorough environmental clean of the nursery unit. We hope that that will happen over the weekend, but it may not. If it doesn’t happen over the weekend it will happen on Monday and Tuesday and that may disrupt some of the work in the nursery unit.”
