Brussels — The European Commission was cited as saying it has received some information from Italian authorities on dioxin contamination of buffalo milk mozzarella, but will wait until 1700 GMT this evening before reacting.
According to the response sent by Italy, the cheeses ‘are just in the Italian local market and not sent to third countries or the European union,’ said EU health spokeswoman Nina Papadoulaki.
She said the contamination had been traced to four holdings and 23 dairy establishments, all in the Campania region of Italy.
