Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was cited as criticizing the U.S. government’s warning to consumers to discard the country’s cantaloupes, saying the U.S. had provided no proof that a salmonella outbreak originated in the Central American country and that the FDA’s move was “extreme and imprudent.”
The country’s trade minister called on the agency to release details of its studies regarding the fruit, AP reported. Honduras has seen no outbreak of salmonella, the news agency reported.
