TASMANIA: Egg farmer shattered - (The Sunday Tasmanian)

March 9, 2008 – 5:27 pm

The owner of the Tasmanian egg farm linked to seven separate outbreaks of salmonella food poisoning was cited as saying in this story that he is the victim of a vicious smear campaign.
Nicholas Pitt, of Pitt’s Poultry Farm, has blamed animal-rights activists and the Tasmanian Greens for the attacks.
Breaking his long silence in an exclusive interview with the Sunday Tasmanian, Mr Pitt was cited as saying that recent footage purportedly showing dead and dying hens in his battery and free-range operations contained scenes not taken on his property and was presented in a “manner to disturb”.
And despite rumours last week that he was preparing a hasty exit from the industry, he said he intended to continue both battery and free-range farming.
