Pregnant women, the young, the elderly and those with low immunity are being reminded to be careful about eating cold or prepared meats in light of the Leonards Superior Smallgoods’ recall of products that could have been contaminated with listeria.
There was a “very limited” distribution of the goods, dated between February 9 and 24, in Palmerston North, MidCentral medical officer of health Jill McKenzie confirmed.
None of the goods went to outlets like rest homes or hospitals catering to people at high risk of becoming ill from the infection, she said.
“There’s a possibility there might have been a few sandwiches and rolls that contained it,” she said.
It could be up to 70 days before any cases of listeria infection develop and are notified.
Although the risk was “very low”, anyone who was concerned they might have eaten contaminated product should seek medical help within that time frame if they had the symptoms […]
