While the push is on by some advocates for a county health department, Pahrump restaurants are still subject to unannounced visits by state inspectors who often find numerous violations to strict health codes.
The story says that Clark and Washoe counties, the two largest in Nevada, have health districts. Carson City just formed one.
In the meantime, Stan Marshall, chief of the Nevada Bureau of Health Protection Services, was cited as saying 432 inspections were conducted on new and existing food establishments in Nye County during 2007, down from 501 during 2006.
Nye County had 339 permitted food establishments last year, 30 more than in 2006. Another 113 temporary food permits were issued in 2007, an increase from 99 in 2006.
