A pre-Christmas turkey dinner may have been the cause of a schools food poisoning outbreak, although investigations are continuing into the cause of a salmonella scare at a Whitehaven school that struck down 14 pupils.
The outbreak began at St Benedicts School, Whitehaven, on December 14 when a boy fell ill. Two more boys were confirmed to be suffering from the same sickness bug just a few days later.
Copeland council environmental staff sent samples to a London laboratory for analysis. It was originally thought the problem was confined to three cases but the total number of victims is now more than three times that number.
Investigations are continuing to determine the exact cause of the spread of the infection.
Environmental health officers from Copeland Council said the particular strain of salmonella is linked with foods such as poultry and sausages. One idea being considered is that the pupils ate a bad batch […]
