KENTUCKY: Months after an E. coli break out at an area elementary school, one of the girls infected still battles the effects - (Louisville News, WHAS11.com)

February 19, 2008 – 7:25 pm

It’s been months since a southern Indiana elementary school became the epicenter for an E. coli outbreak. More than a dozen students got sick at Galena Elementary. And until now, health officials didn’t know why.
The story says that the 7-year-old Sidney Jacobi was one of the 15 students who were affected by E. Coli last September. She spent 27 days in Kosair Children’s Hospital. To this day, she’s still battling the long term health effects.
“She has kidney damage. Her kidneys aren’t filtering. She’s on high blood pressure medications to protect her kidneys,” her mother Marcia Jacobi tells WHAS 11 News.
Doctors still don’t know exactly where the E. coli came from that affected those 15 students, but the State Health Inspector’s report offers an idea.
