GEORGIA: Brand might be sold - (Augusta Chronicle)
February 16, 2008 – 6:09 pmToronto-based Connors Bros. Income Fund, the Canadian investment fund that owns Castleberry’s Food Co., was cited as saying it is considering selling the canned meat company, whose 400-employee Augusta plant was linked to a botulism scare last year.
The story notes that Connors lost more than $35 million as the result of last summer’s Castleberry’s recall.
More than 90 products were recalled in July after hot dog chili was linked to several cases of botulism. The federal government cleared the plant to restart in September.
