US: New measures to control salmonella - (Tasmania)

The Director of Public Health, Dr Roscoe Taylor, today announced new food safety measures designed to prevent further outbreaks of salmonella gastroenteritis associated with the consumption of raw egg products.
Dr Taylor said consumers should be aware that eggs are a safe and excellent source of nutrition when handled and prepared correctly but in recent years there had been several outbreaks of Salmonella gastroenteritis linked to the consumption of raw or undercooked egg products, including the most recent outbreak in the Hobart area.
“Rigorous investigations involving many hundreds of hours of work by the Public and Environmental Health Service, and our colleagues in the Department of Primary Industry, have helped to underpin the further measures that we now feel obliged to put in place.
