UK: Probe into salmonella school - (News and Star)

February 13, 2008 – 4:35 pm

Investigations are, according to this story, continuing into the cause of a salmonella scare at a west Cumbrian school that struck down 14 pupils with the food poisoning bug.
The outbreak began at St Benedict’s School, Whitehaven, on December 14 when a boy fell ill.
Two more boys were confirmed to be suffering from the same sickness bug just a few days later.
One 15-year-old from Egremont was kept in the West Cumberland Hospital for two days on a fluids drip to prevent dehydration.
One idea being considered is that the pupils were all given a bad batch of turkey.
However it still cannot be confirmed whether the meat – which was served to the affected students before Christmas – is the precise cause.
An inspection of the school kitchens found them to be clean.
