UK: Probe into salmonella school - (News and Star)
February 13, 2008 – 4:35 pmInvestigations are, according to this story, continuing into the cause of a salmonella scare at a west Cumbrian school that struck down 14 pupils with the food poisoning bug.
The outbreak began at St Benedicts School, Whitehaven, on December 14 when a boy fell ill.
Two more boys were confirmed to be suffering from the same sickness bug just a few days later.
One 15-year-old from Egremont was kept in the West Cumberland Hospital for two days on a fluids drip to prevent dehydration.
One idea being considered is that the pupils were all given a bad batch of turkey.
However it still cannot be confirmed whether the meat which was served to the affected students before Christmas is the precise cause.
An inspection of the school kitchens found them to be clean.
