CHINA urges establishment of long-term food safety mechanism with Japan - (Xinhua News Agency)
February 13, 2008 – 4:36 pmBEIJING–China has again, according to this story, called for the establishment of a long-term bilateral cooperation mechanism with Japan for food safety.
Wei Chuanzhong, deputy chief of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, was cited as telling a news conference Wednesday that China already has such a mechanism with the United States and the European Union and it is operating well, adding, “The two sides should establish the mechanism as soon as possible to strengthen cooperation on food safety so as to promote the healthy development of bilateral trade.”
The Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) also said on Wednesday that it wished to see closer and more effective cooperation with Japanese police to find out the truth behind the recent incident of contaminated dumpling in Japan.
