February 5, 2008 – 4:57 pmA report into an E. coli outbreak at a Chester nursery was cited as concluding the facility was not the source of the infection.
Jigsaw Curzon House Day Nursery, Wrexham Road, advised parents to keep their children at home following an outbreak of the bacterial infection in September.
Three children who attended the nursery and three family members were affected, leading to a routine investigation to determine the cause of the outbreak.
A report conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency, was quoted as concluding, “the investigation results indicate the source of the infection was the smallholding in North Wales visited by one of the children within the incubation period. Further transmission occurred within the nursery to two more children. Two adults and one sibling contracted the infection from person to person spread, probably in a household setting.”
The investigation confirmed that food prepared or eaten at Jigsaw was not implicated in the outbreak.
