NEW ZEALAND: Sealord aims to be listeria-free at factory - (The Nelson Mail)
February 5, 2008 – 4:18 pmSealord was cited as saying it’s business as usual despite it finding more positive tests of listeria at its Nelson plant because of tougher testing standards.
Sealord general manager of operations Ross Tocker was cited as saying on Tuesday that following a voluntary recall of mussel meat by Sanford in November, because of a listeria scare, the country’s food safety authority had put in place a higher level of testing for the bacteria.
Sealord was now doing four or five times more sampling for listeria, and as a result was finding more positive samples of it.
“But to say we’ve got a listeria problem isn’t true,” Mr Tocker said.
