UK: Leeds butcher at centre of E. coli outbreak cleared - (Yorkshire Evening Post)

A court was cited as ruling that it cannot be proved that the most serious outbreak of E.coli to hit Leeds in recent years was caused by Todd’s Butchers.
WT and C Munro Ltd, the company behind Todd’s formerly of Armley and Kirkgate Market, was fined £15,000 for countless food hygiene offences but no “causal link” was proved between the shop and the sick, heard Leeds’ magistrates.
All charges were withdrawn against shop boss William Tukino Munro, 52, of Darrington near Pontefract, who appeared in court on Wednesday
At the height of the food poisoning outbreak dozens were affected by the potentially-fatal O157 E.coli strain, with some people hospitalised.
A five-year-old girl and 82-year-old woman were among those affected.
Investigations detected the serious form of the bacteria in beef meat at Todd’s Kirkgate Market in the city centre, but this was not enough to connect the two, said David Hallam for Leeds City Council.
