NEW ZEALAND: Rules on honey exports faulted - (Scoop)

The New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) is, according to this story, in the firing line of honey exporters bogged down by paperwork who are struggling to keep up with the same animal-product rules that apply for national meat companies.
Christchurch exporter Lawrence Heath, from L and M Trading, was cited as saying the heavy-handed rules were small change for major animal producers, but had overwhelmed small businesses, adding, “It is monstrous overkill for small businesses to move product. We have to protect our reputation, but without paperwork at this level.”
Heath was further cited as saying that exporters understood that New Zealand had to protect its reputation by ensuring exports were clean, but “overzealous” rules had made it difficult to export, adding, “Animal products have the potential to go rotten and spread disease, but honey products are some of the safest you can get.
