MEXICO ends spinach ban triggered by E. coli outbreak - (Salinas Californian)
December 21, 2007 – 5:12 pmAfter more than a year of frustrating international efforts, shoppers in Mexico soon will, according to this story, find California-grown spinach on store shelves again.
The story says that Mexico has announced that after a 16-month ban, it will allow imports of California spinach - as long as it’s grown and shipped by member-companies of the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement.
Scott Horsfall, the chief executive officer of the marketing agreement group, was quoted as saying Thursday, “I think it’s unfortunate that it took this long to resolve it, but we’re happy it’s resolved now.”
