WALES: E.coli outbreak response inadequate - (icWales)

The inquiries that routinely follow major lapses in public health and safety invariably produce strong recommendations, and the report published yesterday by the control team which managed the 2005 E.coli outbreak is no exception.
The story says that as so often in cases like this, the obvious question arises when reading the recommendations – why weren’t these structures and guidelines already in place?
Some of the schools involved in the outbreak, which left a five-year- old child dead and more than 100 needing medical treatment, had no hot running water, the report found.
A school, in Wales, in the 21st century, without hot running water? The implications are staggering, and to simply insist that something must be done about it seems to be an inadequate response to such a major issue.
