AUSTRALIA: Cockroach sandwich? Calls to name and shame dirty school canteens - (Live News)
December 11, 2007 – 6:55 pmThere are calls to name and shame schools with dirty canteens.
Gastro outbreaks, cockroaches in sandwiches and mice droppings in pie ovens are among a number of complaints that have seen 38 Sydney schools targeted by the food safety authority since 2004.
Shadow Education Minister Andrew Stoner says school canteens should be treated the same as any other public food outlet.
We dont allow other businesses takeaways and restaurants to get away with this.
We cant allow school canteens to do it, he said.
Morris Iemma needs to show some leadership on this issue, instead of covering up - name and shame the schools where canteens are not up to scratch.
