SOUTH CAROLINA: Special Report: Germs On The Menu - (Live 5 News)

According to this story, Live 5 News went into one restaurant from each chain and tested one menu. This is not a scientific study, but it does show what you could pick up…when you go out to eat.
The menu is handled by a lot of people, which means lots of hands, with lots of germs….touching something you touch- right before you eat.
Linda Pranger, who works for the Health Department and says menus at restaurants aren’t tested for cleanliness, was quoted as saying, “That is something of a customer contact as opposed to a food handler contact.”
First we went to EMSL labs, and got some swabs. For accurate results we used precautionary measures like wearing a sterile glove to collect the sample, swabbing the same size sample on the same part of each menu, and then we refrigerated the samples so the bacteria would not start growing before it reached the […]
