US: Diana DeGette tells White House to get serious about food safety - (Associated Content)

House Energy and Commerce Committee Vice Chair Diana DeGette (D-CO) is calling on the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt and the President to, in her words get serious when it comes to consumer protection regarding imported foods. She made her statement in the wake of the latest administration plan for the Seattle Fish Company in Denver. Colorado.
According to the Congresswoman, the administration should take the existing 12+ federal agencies that have authority of the food supply, streamline them and make them into one agency, thereby eliminating any conflict in administration and laws. She also calls on the Administration to immediately give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) the authority to issue mandatory food recalls.
