The recent outbreak of a food-borne illness at an Aptos restaurant might, according to this story, have people wondering about health safeguards at local dining establishments.
Fortunately, most restaurants are clean and hygienic — and for good reason since their business future depends on their reputation with the eating public.
That, the story says, might be one reason county health officials were hesitant to name Sanderlings Restaurant at Seascape Resort as the place where more than 80 became ill.
These same health officials have told the Sentinel they did not name Sanderlings when they put out an advisory last week about the virus outbreak because they weren’t certain where the pathogen originated.
They still aren’t sure.
Health officials say the norovirus, a highly contagious gastrointestinal bug, originated with a guest at the hotel, not a restaurant worker.
