ALABAMA: Weeks in hospital ‘blur’ after E. coli hit - (Huntsville Times)

Regina Lassiter is, according to this story, overwhelmed when she looks inside the cardboard box brimming with get-well cards sent by neighbors, church friends and others last summer, when Lassiter was fighting for her life in an Asheville, N.C., hospital room because of E. coli poisoning.
The story says that for 76 long days, Lassiter endured a medical nightmare - ventilators, feeding tubes, bleeding kidneys, dialysis, even chemotherapy drugs - as doctors tried to stop the infection.
They finally did, and Lassiter left Huntsville’s HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital on Sept. 18 - in a wheelchair, but alive.
“Thanksgiving is going to be wonderful,” she said Monday, “because a couple of months ago, I couldn’t be assured that I was going to be able to be around. It just stresses to me the importance of family and love.”
Lassiter, who turned 69 on Tuesday, isn’t back to normal just yet. But she’s getting there.
