AUSTRALIA: Record oyster crop - (Great Lakes Advocate)

Oyster farmers are anticipating a record producing season with abundant numbers of oysters on offer and the quality of this year’s crop second to none.
Leading Wallis Lake oyster producer Graham Barclay was cited as saying h is so confident about the quality of this year’s crop that he is forecasting this season’s local oyster industry profits to dramatically rise from $10 million to $14 million, and it’s all because of the current cleanliness of Wallis Lake, adding, “It’s terrific, and I’d like to highlight the (Great Lakes) council and the Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for doing a wonderful job in cleaning the lake up. They have given us the cleanest lake on the north coast of Australia.
Our oysters are growing so much better. They are the best they have ever been.”
The QAP sees local oyster farmers working alongside Great Lakes Council to test the local waterways every week.
