November 21, 2007 – 7:55 pmNot only are they some of the healthiest meals a student will eat, school meals are also the safest. School nutrition professionals take great pride in providing carefully prepared meals for over 30 million students each day. Both the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program have long standing records of serving safe, high quality food. This is the highest priority of the nations school nutrition professionals.
Through training programs for members, legislative advocacy and collaboration with government, association and private sector partners, the School Nutrition Association (SNA) strives for the safest possible school meals.
According to a 2003 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, only 3 percent of foodborne outbreaks between 1990 and 1999 occurred in schools.
