When one man received word that his 78 year old father, who had been in good health, had suddenly passed away, he was alarmed to find three discarded Banquet pot pie packages in the recycling bin and several more of the recalled pot pies in his fathers freezer. The Banquet Pot Pies, which were recalled for Salmonella contamination, have thus far been linked to hundreds of cases of food poisoning but no reported deaths.
Salmonella sickens millions of people every year, and 1,000 or more of these people die. Unfortunately, most cases of foodbourne illness go undetected or unreported. This may be the case with this 78 year old Alabama man. The detective who found the body reported finding vomit mixed with blood on the floor.
