November 17, 2007 – 7:40 pm

Santa Cruz County, CA — Santa Cruz County’s Health Services Agency was cited as announcing Friday that as many as 1,000 people may have been exposed to a foodborne illness at a local hotel, but they would not release the name of the hotel.
The agency issued a public services advisory stating the problem centers on a gastrointestinal illness and that people have been exposed at a variety of events between Nov. 9 and Nov. 15.
So far, the agency reports that 80 people have reported getting ill.
Health Department investigators also said that they believe the cause of the outbreak is a highly contagious virus that can be passed from human to human.
Symptoms generally include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
