PENNSYLVANIA: E. coli investigation continues at northern tier meat plant - (WETM 18)

Wyalusing — U.S.D.A. inspectors have not yet found the source of E. coli contamination at the Cargill Meat Plant in Wyalusing, N.Y., but people in the community were cited as saying they’ll continue to support the local business.
Former Cargill employee Claudette Burke was quoted as saying, “I think it’s a fluke thing…You know they’re really clean.”
On Saturday, Cargill Incorporated recalled one-million pounds of ground beef for possible E. Coli contamination. A spokesman says 14 U.S. Department of Agriculture inspectors, who work inside the Wyalusing plant are now trying to find the source of contamination.
Each year, Cargill in Wyalusing produces two hundred million pounds of ground beef. Officials say this is their first recall ever. This recall hasn’t stopped or slowed them down from producing their meat.
