CALIFORNIA: Woodland Hills firm accused of shipping salmonella-tainted seeds to Vegas - (Los Angeles Times)
November 6, 2007 – 7:37 pmLos Angeles City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo was cited as filing misdemeanor charges today against a Woodland Hills company accused of shipping 4,000 bags of sesame seeds contaminated with salmonella bacteria to Las Vegas.
Delgadillo said Woodhouse Commodities Inc. sent the bags to 18 casinos, restaurants, bakeries and hotels, even though inspectors from the Food and Drug Administration had planned to inspect them at a warehouse in Boyle Heights.
Delgadillo was cited as saying at a news conference that if thoroughly cooked, the seeds might have lost their traces of salmonella, and no one in Las Vegas has reported getting sick from the seeds, adding, “As they say, whatever happens there, stays there.”
The city filed one count of misbranding and one count of shipping an “adulterated” food against Woodhouse and its president, Oded Kenan. If convicted, Kenan faces up to two years in jail, and the company faces up to $2,000 in penalties, […]
