CANADA: Beef recall comes too late for action, complains Winnipeg store owner - (CBC.CA News)
November 6, 2007 – 7:13 pmThe Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a recall Saturday on beef that might have been sold at three Winnipeg stores - the Dutch Meat Market, Harry’s Foods, and a Foodfare in Silver Heights - between July 23 and Aug. 18 that may contain E. coli bacteria.
The warning comes following the agency’s investigation into Ranchers Beef Ltd., in Balzac, Alta. The company is no longer in operation.
Munther Zeid, co-owner of the affected Foodfare, was cited as complaining that the recall came months after the beef was sold to customers, stating, “I think this whole incident is stupid. Why wasn’t it caught before? They’re making it sound as if everything you’re buying in the last few days is bad, and people are thinking that right now,” he said, adding he’s been flooded with calls from concerned customers.
