BRAZILIAN deputy defends adulterated milk at congress - (English News Service)
November 2, 2007 – 7:14 pmXinhua News Agency (China)DE JANEIRO — Brazil’s Federal Deputy Paulo Piau on Wednesday defended at the Chamber of Deputies milk produced by two dairies amid reports that their product has proven hazardous to people’s health, stating, “Soda is not only in milk. You take soft drinks and they have soda.
Brazilian milk cannot be compared to that produced in first world countries. It is the milk that Brazil has.”
The story explains that milk produced by the two dairies, Casmil and Coopervale, has been found containing hydrogen peroxide and caustic soda, which is aimed at extending the product’s expiration date and hiding signs of bad conditions of conservation, transportation and hygiene.
Casmil and Coopervale are based in Minas Gerais state, where Piau, a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB), found most of his voters.
