CANADA: Ag Ministers should announce food safety direction & funding at November meeting - (Canadian Supply Chain Food Safety Coalition)
October 30, 2007 – 3:43 pmOttawa — The Canadian Supply Chain Food Safety Coalition today called upon Canadas federal, provincial and territorial ministers of agriculture to announce the details of future food safety programming and funding at their November 16th and 17th meeting on the new policy framework Growing Forward.
Heather Holland, Coalition chair, congratulated Ministers on continuing to recognize the importance of food safety in the Growing Forward initiative in a letter delivered today. She noted, Food safety is a matter of interest to all Canadians and the Canadian agriculture and food industry recognizes that it has a definite role to play alongside governments and consumers in assuring food safety.
Recognizing that the Ministers communiqué from their June 29th meeting was a progress report on their discussions, the Coalition chair asked the ministers to consider six recommendations as priorities at their upcoming meeting in Toronto:
