China, ASEAN pledge deeper food safety co-operation - (Inquirer.net)
October 29, 2007 – 3:17 pmBEIJING–China and its Southeast Asian neighbors were cited as pledging Monday to strengthen food safety co-operation to protect consumers and help in the timely handling of potential health threats.
The Xinhua news agency was cited as saying that at a meeting in the southern Chinese city of Nanning, China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) issued a joint statement vowing to increase communication on regulations and standards, adding, “Recognizing that food safety is of great importance to consumers’ health, trade development and social stability… the ministers and representatives agreed to support and strengthen cooperation and exchanges in the field.”
