FLORIDA: School administrators worry hand sanitizers could violate state policy - (Tallahassee Democrat)
October 12, 2007 – 7:17 pmA crackdown is, according to this story, in effect on the use of hand sanitizers in Leon County schools. But local and state agencies say that decision was made by the district, not them. And, nobody has alerted parents.
The story explains that before August, principals were told to instruct their teachers to refrain from using alcohol-based hand sanitizers until further notice. Administrators were worried they could potentially violate a state policy because of the high-alcohol content or if a child swallows the substance.
Lorri Pilkington, coordinator for health and nursing services, was cited as saying the district began piecing together information from the Florida Department of Health, the Department of Education and the state Fire Marshal’s Office, adding, “We have been quietly working this issue.
