KOREA prepared to normalize beef trade with U.S. - (Feedstuffs)

October 10, 2007 – 8:35 pm

South Korean Agriculture Minister Im Sang-gyu said today it’s time for Korea to renegotiate rules for importing U.S. beef to recognize that U.S. beef is safe under international standards, including a determination earlier this year by the World Organization for Animal health that the U.S. is at “controlled risk” for bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Im said Korean and U.S. negotiators will meet tomorrow and Friday in the first technical talks to move forward in rewriting the rules.
