INDIANA: 8th case of E. coli reported in Floyd - (The Courier-Journal)
September 29, 2007 – 6:14 pmDr. Tom Harris, the county’s chief medical officer, was cited as saying at a late-Friday afternoon news conference that the number of confirmed E. coli cases in Floyd County has risen to eight, and one of eight probable cases is expected to be confirmed.
Health investigators are continuing to search for the cause of the outbreak, with Harris quoted as saying, “Unfortunately, this isn’t TV. We won’t have the answer in an hour or two hours. This is detective work. It takes time.”
Harris was further cited as saying the latest confirmed case had been expected and described it as “secondary” and said it was likely transmitted to the victim from someone who already had E. coli, adding, “At this point, we can trace every case back” to Galena Elementary School in Floyds Knobs. “There has not been a confirmed case outside Galena.”
