PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rhode Island Hospital is using special tools to show workers how much time to take and pressure they need to use to truly wash their hands and eliminate germs.
While it’s common sense that handwashing is one of the best ways to stop germs from spreading, the H1N1 flu scare has heightened the public’s awareness about personal hygiene and ways to prevent infection. Health experts say it’s not just about when you wash your hands, but how you do it.
The combination of soap, water and patience is vital to protect yourself from catching the flu, according to the hospital’s Director of Infection Control, Julie Jefferson.
