SEATTLE — If you’ve ever dialed a number or text message on your cell phone with “a free hand” while driving.
Or read a text message while driving.
Or fumbled with your iPod while driving.
If you’ve ever taken your eyes off the road — for even just a moment — to use a modern communication or entertainment gadget, then Ford Motor Co. is hoping you will be interested in the new Sync technology it is launching today in Seattle in conjunction with Microsoft Corp.
“It’s technology to make your life a little easier,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of the Americas. “It reduces distraction.”
The two American companies are showing journalists the new wireless system for making phone calls, text messaging and playing digital music while driving — all using voice commands.
Consumers can even plug a USB key loaded with digital music right into their car to play music with a simple voice command.
