September 16, 2007 – 6:54 pmPetra Dorfsman of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and a member of the board, Better School Food, writes regarding, “Some Food Additives Raise Hyperactivity, Study Finds (news article, Sept. 6) to say we were encouraged that you reported on a British study connecting food additives to behavior that was published last week in The Lancet. Its great to see the mainstream media focus on such a critical issue to the health and development of our children.
We were astonished, however, by the comments of Dr. Thomas Spencer, a specialist in pediatric psychopharmacology at Massachusetts General Hospital: Is it powerful enough that you want to ostracize your kid? It is very socially impacting if children cant eat the things that their friends do.
That is the question he would ask? Should we be O.K. with our teenagers smoking and drinking so they can be cool, too? Why wouldnt he ask to simply remove those foods […]
