CALIFORNIA: Cupertino Plaza fountains likely to stay off during summer - (Cupertino Courier)
June 11, 2008 – 12:13 amThe fountains outside the community hall and library in Cupertino are likely to remain out of commission for the summer due to Santa Clara County Health Department orders and expected project delays.
An ordinance classifying the interactive fountains as special use pools includes new regulations to combat a protozoan pathogen called cryptosporidium.
“No outbreaks have occurred in our city fountains. Yet they are shut down for the time being because we need to meet this county regulation,” said Mayor Dolly Sandoval at the June 2 city council meeting.
The order calls for the installation of an ultraviolet system to be placed within the filtration. The estimated cost of this installation and other repairs is expected to be about $400,000.
