UTAH: Pool detritus - (The Salt Lake Tribune)

Vincent Rocco writes to say that David Sundwall feels that the Utah Department of Health’s reliance on people taking personal responsibility is appropriate for the cryptosporidium problem (”Department of Health faces a cryptosporidium conundrum,” Opinion, June 1).
Rocco says he formerly used the Draper community pool about four times per season. Paying the small fee is much better than the cost of owning a pool. However, the last three visits resulted in “time outs” while the lifeguards/babysitters removed fecal contamination. Not only does this cut into usage time, it makes getting back in the pool uninviting. It was not unusual to see remnants of hot dogs, nachos and other detritus floating in the shallow end used by the children. Many of the mothers were blissfully unaware of their children as they socialized with other mothers. Other places we have lived had separate pools for children in diapers.
