FLORIDA: City moves closer to doggie dining - (Florida Freedom Newspapers)
June 4, 2008 – 5:21 pmFORT WALTON BEACH — This week the city will take its first doggie steps toward allowing man’s best friend to visit permitted restaurants.
On Thursday, the Fort Walton Beach Municipal Planning Board will evaluate a new law that would amend the city’s land development code to allow dogs in designated out-door portions of permitted restaurants. The law was requested by Brian Burger and Jenna Leigh Caldwell, the owners of Tijuana Flats on Eglin Parkway. Burger and Caldwell had started Yappy Hour - a popular promotion at their restaurant that allowed dog owners to dine outside with their pets every Thursday night - last October. But in mid-May, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation ordered Burger and Caldwell to cancel the dog-friendly night or risk having the restaurant shut down.
