NEW MEXICO and TEXAS: Salmonella cases linked to tomatoes continue to increase - (Denton Record - Chronicle)

June 4, 2008 – 5:12 pm

The number of salmonella cases linked to raw tomatoes continued to grow Wednesday as investigators worked to confirm the source of the outbreak across Texas and New Mexico.
Three new cases were reported in Harris County, bringing the total to 24 cases in Texas, state health officials said.
In New Mexico, 40 cases of the same Saintpaul strain of salmonella have been confirmed, according to the New Mexico Department of Health.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said preliminary investigations suggest that raw red plum, red Roma, or round red tomatoes are to blame.
