S. KOREA asks US not to export beef from older cattle: minister - (Google News)

June 3, 2008 – 7:24 pm

SEOUL — Agriculture Minister Chung Woon-Chun was cited as saying Tuesday South Korea has asked the United States not to export beef from cattle older than 30 months as a condition for Seoul resuming imports, stating, “The government has requested the United States not to export any beef from cattle older than 30 months, which the people are most concerned about. We won’t announce new quarantine conditions (needed for resuming US beef imports) until the United States gives an answer to this request.”
The move comes after the government here announced late Monday that it was delaying implementation of a decision to resume US beef imports in the wake of high-profile protests over fears of mad cow disease.
