It was a giant love-in in Owen Sound Thursday for Green Party leader Elizabeth May.
Green Party officials are talking boldly about the possibility of winning House of Commons seats in the next federal election. Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound is one of the seats they think they can win.
The story notes that two high profile candidates are seeking the Green nomination June 5.
Durham farmer and raw milk advocate Michael Schmidt and Conservation Ontario chairman Dick Hibma, a former member of Owen Sound city council, have both indicated they’ll run. Both were working Thursday’s crowd.
Schmidt, an organic dairy farmer who ran unsuccessfully as an independent in the provincial election of 1995, is known best for recent charges against him over the production and distribution of raw milk. He faces a trial in June that could scare off some Green supporters while attracting others.
